Sunday Reflections: When They Rewrite the Story You Survived

Hi friends,

This week, I was faced with something many survivors of narcissistic abuse will recognize.

The narcissist’s desperate attempt to control the narrative, even long after you’ve walked away.

He left a public comment on one of my posts, filled with familiar phrases:

“I cherished you.”
“You were the one hiding things.”
“I was the victim.”
“You ghosted me.”
“Stop painting me as a monster.”

And beneath all of that?

Shame. Guilt. Gaslighting.
A last-ditch attempt to pull me back into a story I was finally strong enough to walk away from.

What’s so heartbreaking about moments like these is not just the manipulation.

It’s the reminder of how long we were conditioned to believe that this was love. That pain was proof someone cared.

That chaos meant passion.

But I know better now.
And I write to help others know better too.

I share these Sunday reflections not for pity, not for drama but because someone out there is still trying to untangle themselves from a cycle that looks just like this.

Someone still thinks they’re the problem.

Someone is reading this with tears in their eyes because they finally feel seen.

If that’s you:
You’re not crazy.
You’re not too sensitive.
You’re not a bad person for wanting peace.
And you don’t owe anyone a seat at the table you had to rebuild from the ashes.
